Schwarzsee paradise

The Matterhorn- Express is the latest cable gondola built by Zermatt Bergbahnen. It takes the guests from the bottom station Matterhorn glacier paradise in only 12 minutes straight to Schwarzsee (2'583 m / 8'472 ft) at the foot of the majestic Matterhorn. At the top of Schwarzsee you'll find a restaurant with a lovely terrace and an impressive view of all the famous mountains. Visiting Schwarzsee paradise is a truly unique and unforgettable experience!
Schwarzsee is an idyllic mountain lake with a small Chapel. The clear lake, only a few paces away from the cableway station, reflects the picturesque mountain scenery.
A lovely hike takes you from Schwarzsee to Stafelalp and via Zmutt to Zermatt. It passes below the north face of the Matterhorn and through the hamlet of Kalbermatten. You often come across rare alpine flowers and placid mountain animals. The hike takes approx. 3 hours and is about 5 km.
The Hörnli hut (3'260 m) is the starting point for climbing the Matterhorn and can be reached from Schwarzsee within 2 hours.
