The Zermatt Summer Concerts and Master Classes were founded by the cellist Pablo Casals in the 50s. The most outstanding artists of the music world at the time were giving concerts in Zermatt and teaching young musicians.
The new Zermatt Festival Foundation wants to revive this tradition through a range of high- quality concerts and a Festival Academy at the various concert venues in Zermatt. It also wants to ensure the continued development of the Riffelalp Festival, which has existed in Zermatt for three years.
A number of highly talented musicians from all over Europe will be given scholarships by the Zermatt Festival Foundation and taught by musicians of the Berlin Philharmonic throughout the Festival, from September 6 to 18.
All lessons will be public and can be visited by you, our dear guests in Zermatt, free of charge. Admission times will be announced in Zermatt and on this website throughout the Festival.
Depending on the participants, the Festival concerts will take place in the picturesquely situated Riffelalp Chapel, 2,222 metres (7,290 ft.) above sea level, at St. Mauritius Parish Church in Zermatt, at the English Church, in the Matterhorn Hall of the Grand Hotel Zermatterhof and in the Alexander Seiler Hall of the Mont Cervin Palace.
