This tiny log cabin of a ski haunt, directly across from the Zermatt church, draws an international crowd. It is a small house, dating from 1879, that packs in a large crowd around 6pm.
Elsie's is comfortable, sedate, and bourgeois. Skiers show up for hot chocolate or Elsie's famous Irish coffee. Later on, the crowd selects from an extensive list of aged scotches and mixed cocktails. Light meals include cheese dishes, oysters, escargots, and would you believe: spaghetti with caviar and crème fraîche.
The cafe is open in the winter daily from 11am to 2am and in the summer daily from 4pm to 2am.

Posted by Lulu, 05 January, 2008Elsie's bar in zermatt is perfect! The restaurant has good reviews not only from locals as well as travelers just like me. Their dishes served are fresh and flavorful. When you dine here, you are in for a treat.
